Premature Ejaculation Medication
The subject of premature ejaculation medication is a frustrating one for many who suffer from this condition. As of yet, there have been no medications approved specifically for the treatment of this debilitating and sex life-crushing condition. However, that doesn’t mean there is not hope out there for those who find themselves unable to last as long as they would like in bed. Doctors have begun prescribing SSRIs, or antidepressants, to help with premature ejaculation. It has long been known that many people suffer from PE due to low levels of serotonin in their brain. You may know that serotonin is what regulates pleasure in the human body. When this chemical gets too low, the contrast with the intense pleasure of sexual intercourse can trigger early climax. Some sufferers have also turned to erectile dysfunction medications, and others have gone the herbal route. We’ll look at all three in an attempt to find the best treatment possible.
SSRIs
Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, have been prescribed for a long time to people suffering the effects of chronic depression. Once people realized that serotonin levels could actually make a person feel worthless, sad, and depressed at all hours of the day (and it wasn’t just a “they’re moody” type of thing), a true revolution was born in the treatment of mental illness. Of course, like anything else, this revolution has become somewhat abused. Doctors prescribe these drugs without getting to the root causes of depression, which are sometimes wholly separate from serotonin levels. They have also begun to cavalierly prescribe these drugs for men looking to fight premature ejaculation. This, again, is often done without making sure that low serotonin is the problem in the first place.
The Drawbacks
The first drawback, of course, is the expense. Not all insurance companies will pay for a prescription of Paxil, for instance, if the reason in not for the treatment of depression. This can mean a huge out of pocket cost for the consumer. There is also the matter of side effects. Some of these side effects can be quite extreme in the case of SSRIs. They can range from nausea and headaches to muscle loss and suicidal thoughts. If you are not feeling the effects of depression in any other area of your life, it would come highly recommended to find a better way to treat premature ejaculation than these drugs.
ED Medication
If the patient finds themselves suffering from premature ejaculation as a result of erectile dysfunction, ED meds can do wonders in bringing back a full sex life. Some men rush to climax because they are afraid of losing their erections in a matter of a minute or two. While a female may take premature ejaculation as an inconvenience, she may take loss of erection as a personal insult. Therefore, men may prefer to climax early and spare their partner’s feelings. If this is the case for you, by all means see your doctor and get a prescription for either Viagra or Cialis, depending on which you would prefer.
Herbal Supplements
If you believe your serotonin levels are the problem but do not want to get on a regimen of antidepressants, your best bet is to go the natural way. There is an herbal supplement out on the market now called Climinax, which has been shown to do wonders for men suffering from premature ejaculation. As it doesn’t produce the side effects of SSRIs, but yields the same benefits, it is the clear choice for many men.
