Treating Premature Ejaculation
Premature ejaculation is one of the most common sexual dysfunctions in men under a certain age in this country. However, even with so many suffering from the condition, there has yet to be an FDA approved drug that addresses the problem. There is no Viagra for premature ejaculation, in other words. However, this should not come as terrible news to those men desperately trying to find a way to control their climax. There are multiple methods of treatment when it comes to premature ejaculation, some of them in the form of medicines, some in the form of specialized techniques, and some in the form of herbal supplements. In this article we will take a look at each of these treatments so you can decide which of them is right for you. It may take more than a single treatment to make a difference. Many men have experienced greater success by combining two of the treatments into a single regimen.
The Medical Community
When it comes to treating premature ejaculation, many doctors recommend a regimen of prescription antidepressants. There has been quite a bit of evidence suggesting that premature ejaculation is directly tied into serotonin levels in the brain. This sensory chemical regulates how we feel pleasure and how we respond to it. People with low serotonin levels often feels long periods of melancholy and low self esteem. A feeling of depression and hopelessness. SSRIs, such as Zoloft and Paxil can restore these levels to normal.
Creams and Lotions
One form of treatment is topical creams and lotions. For the most part, these lotions act as a numbing agent and are applied directly to the penis before intercourse. The reduction in sensation can allow the man to last longer, as he is unable to quickly become stimulated to the point of climax. Of course, there are a few drawbacks to using these solutions. One, they can be quite messy, and antithetical to a sexual mood in the bedroom. More importantly, many complain that the lotions rub off on the female, thus preventing her from enjoying intercourse as much as she otherwise would.
Sexual Therapy and Techniques
Many people forego any type of product, and choose to treat their condition with sexual techniques and therapy. The techniques include the squeeze/pause method, where both partners work together over a period of time to gain control over ejaculation. Therapy can include talking to both partners and finding the root causes of any anxiety that might be getting in the way of a healthy sex life.
Herbal Supplementation
Perhaps the best option for many sufferers is an herbal supplement called Climinax. This pill uses a proprietary blend of natural herbs and vitamins to produce much of the same effect on serotonin levels as do the prescription medications. However, they do so naturally, and without the side effects commonly associated with these psychoactive drugs. Climinax is also much less expensive than their prescription drug counterparts, making it a wise choice for the PE sufferer to try first, before seeing what else might work.
